Ask HN: Where should I look to get a domain?

I want a domain for person use, minor projects. I'd rather not pay a great deal for it. Whom do you recommend?

Here is a site that lists prices and renewals. It is not a comprehensive list, but it is a long list. https://tld-list.com/

Renewals is where many registrars 'get' you. Prices can jump considerably.

I have had domains from many providers, the only one which ripped me off via 'dark patterns' was GoDaddy, which cost me $400 for a one year one page website and domain name.

Cloudflare. Their dashboard UI is awesome and fast and the DNS updates are really fast. Especially for 1.1.1.1 users.

I just bought a 1.111b domain from Spaceship for 67 cents a year. They are [0-9]{6,9}\.xyz , i.e. 6 to 9 numbers under the .xyz TLD.
